Installation

System Requirements

Download the current WiRNS Release

Installation

  1. Log on to Windows® with an Administrator level account.
  2. Certain PC firewalls have been known to cause problems. If you have a firewall on your PC, disable it until you have WiRNS running correctly, or allow TCP on port 80, UDP on port 53 and UDP on port 123
  3. Run the WiRNS installer (msi package) that you downloaded. To install into a folder other than the default (C:\WiRNS\), choose Custom Setup Type. Custom also allows you to select which optional plugins to install. If you are unfamiliar with WiRNS, the default selections are recommended. These can be changed later.
  4. Complete the install.

If you receive the message:

This could mean:

  1. You are not using an Administrator account. Easy to rectify, but will require you start over.
  2. The WiRNS service was previously installed and is currently running. Not likely, but easy to check under Administrative Tools / Services.
  3. A previously installed WiRNS service was configured to use an account other than the Local System Account. Change the Log On account to Local System, then click Retry in the WiRNS install dialog.

You could also choose to ignore this message.

Allow the installer to Launch WiRNS. At the same time, the installer will start the WiRNS Service Monitor, which should appear as a status icon in your Windows® System Tray:

Stopped
Starting Up / Shutting Down
Running

If the tray icon remains red, WiRNS did not start. Right-click on the tray icon and select Start. If that doesn't work, browse to the folder where you installed WiRNS and run StartWirns.bat

Setup

The first time WiRNS starts, you will be presented with the WiRNS Setup dialog:

These settings can all be changed later, but it would be extremely helpful to have the correct information the first time.

After entering this information, click Save. Verify your input and click on the dialog box as directed. You should then see:

Acknowledge this message, and wait a few minutes for:

Click OK.

Wait for WiRNS to complete its startup. The Edit Replays page should then open in your web browser.

WiRNS should have already found your Replays. Edit each one and assign the lineup(s).
If you did not enter a zip code and plan to use Schedules Direct© or another XMLTV guide data source, you will need to configure those before continuing.
Navigate to the WiRNS Configuration / Guide Data page and enter the required information.

For Schedules Direct©, enter your Login and Password, Update, then go to the Administration menu and select Update Guide. When that has completed (click on the Status menu item to display the WiRNS Index Page which will show you if the Guide Update is complete), Edit your Replay settings to select the desired lineup(s).

For other XMLTV guide data, see Here.

Configuring your ReplayTV®

On your ReplayTV®, go to Menu, Setup, Network and Input Settings

Change Network

  1. Configure your ReplayTV® to use a static IP address.
  2. Set Netmask to 255.255.255.0
  3. The Gateway value should remain unchanged (probably your router IP address)
  4. Set DNS Server 1 to your WiRNS IP address
  5. Set DNS Server 2 to your WiRNS IP address

Select Continue, your ReplayTV® will attempt to verify the network settings. If the settings do not verify, you must correct the problem before continuing.

Change Zip Code

Change your Zip Code to any valid Zip Code in your time zone. This will cause your ReplayTV® to connect to WiRNS and download your WiRNS Lineups.

Once the ReplayTV® has completed its update, you will be asked to set up your connections. After selecting the connection type, you will be asked for the service provider. Select the appropriate lineup.

Complete the Inputs setup.

When you return to the Setup Summary, select Keep all settings.
